Paint correction is the mechanical part of refinishing: we remove a few microns of dead, scratched clearcoat instead of just hiding the defects with a glaze. On a coach that has baked in California sun, that means cutting through oxidation and the swirl marks underneath, then refining the surface in stages until it reflects clean. Every panel is corrected by hand and machine on a lift in our shop, never outdoors and never on the road.
How we correct a finish in shop
We start by washing and claying the panel to pull bonded contamination off the surface, then read the clearcoat with a paint depth gauge so we know exactly how much film we have to work with. That reading decides whether a panel gets a single polish or a full compound-and-refine cycle. On a faded fiberglass coach or a freshly color-sanded repaint, the same surface can need very different correction from one section to the next.
From there we work in stages with a dual-action or rotary machine, starting with the most aggressive compound and pad the defect needs and stepping down to a finishing polish that removes the haze the cut leaves behind. We wipe each section with a panel prep solvent and inspect under a swirl-finder light so what looks corrected in the shop still looks corrected in daylight.

Defects correction fixes, and what it cannot
Correction works on damage that lives in the clearcoat: dull oxidation, spider-web swirls from improper washing, light scratches you cannot catch with a fingernail, water spotting, and the fine sanding marks left after bodywork or a fresh repaint. Pulling those out is what restores the gloss and the sharp reflection. It is also the step that makes a new paint job look finished, since spray and clear always need to be color sanded and buffed flat.
Defects that reach down to the base coat or the substrate are a refinish job, not a polish. Deep scratches you can feel, chips, and cracked or delaminated gelcoat need filler, paint, or panel work first. If we find that during the inspection we will tell you up front and route it to the right repair instead of polishing over a problem the buffer cannot reach.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between paint correction and a detail polish?+
A detail polish lays a glaze or filler over the paint to make it shine for a few washes. Correction physically removes the damaged top layer of clearcoat with compound and a machine, so the swirls and oxidation are gone rather than masked. The result lasts because the defects are actually cut out, not hidden.
Will polishing my RV remove all the clearcoat?+
No. We measure the film thickness with a paint depth gauge before we cut and choose the least aggressive compound and pad that will remove the defect. On a thin or previously buffed panel we back off to protect the clear. Removing too much paint is the one thing correction must never do, and measuring first is how we prevent it.
Should I get paint correction before a ceramic coating?+
Yes, and that is the normal order. A coating locks in whatever is underneath it, so any swirls or oxidation left in the paint get sealed in for the life of the coating. We correct the finish first, then prep and coat it, so the gloss you protect is the corrected one.
