High-Cube Van Repair in Chino

The short answer

OCRV Center repairs high-cube vans in Chino, including the cutaway cab, the FRP or aluminum box, the roof, and the rear roll-up door. Collision, panel, and structural work handled in shop in Yorba Linda.

Ballpark: $1,500 to $40,000+

A high-cube van is a cutaway chassis cab with a tall box body grafted on behind it, usually built from FRP fiberglass or aluminum skins over a plywood and aluminum frame. That tall, square box catches wind, scrapes overhangs, and splits at the seams where the box meets the cab, so the damage we see is rarely a simple dent. We repair the box and the cab as the two-part vehicle it really is.

How a high-cube body fails

The roofline is the number one casualty. A 12-foot box meets an 11-foot clearance and the front header, fiberglass roof cap, and corner posts take the hit. We also see seam separation and delamination where the FRP skin pulls away from its substrate after years of flexing, water working into the plywood frame from a failed roof seam or rivet line, and rear roll-up door tracks bent out of square so the door binds.

Because the box is a bonded composite, not stamped steel, we repair it as fiberglass and panel work rather than pulling it like a car fender. We cut back delaminated FRP to sound material, rebuild the substrate, re-skin and re-rivet aluminum where needed, and refinish so the corner reads flat. The cutaway cab itself, a Transit, Express, or ProMaster front end, gets standard collision and refinish work.

Box, cab, and door together

The value of a high-cube is in the box, so a shop that only knows passenger cars stops at the cab. We handle the FRP and aluminum box, the translucent roof panel, the cab, and the rear door as one repair so the seam between them ends up sealed and square.

  • Front header, roof cap, and corner post collision repair from clearance strikes
  • FRP delamination cut-back, substrate rebuild, and re-skin
  • Aluminum panel replacement and re-riveting on the box
  • Roof seam and rivet-line leak tracing into the plywood frame
  • Rear roll-up door track straightening and panel repair
Questions

Frequently asked questions

I hit a clearance bar and damaged the top of the box. Can you fix it?+

Yes. Roofline strikes from low clearances are the most common high-cube repair we do. We repair the front header, the fiberglass roof cap, and the corner posts, rebuild any crushed substrate behind the FRP skin, and refinish so the top corner reads flat and seals again. The cutaway cab and the box are handled in the same shop.

The fiberglass skin on my box is bubbling and pulling away. Is that repairable?+

Yes, that is delamination, where the FRP skin separates from the plywood and aluminum frame behind it. We cut back to sound material, rebuild or replace the wet substrate, re-bond and re-skin the panel, and refinish. We also find the roof seam or rivet line that let water in so it does not come back.

Do you repair the box, or just the cab of a high-cube van?+

Both. The cutaway cab, a Transit, Express, or ProMaster front end, gets standard collision and refinish work, and we repair the FRP or aluminum box, the roof panel, and the rear roll-up door as composite and panel work. The seam where the box meets the cab is sealed as part of the repair.
