The haze is oxidized polycarbonate, and wiping it does nothing because the damage is in the lens surface itself. We sand the failed layer off, polish the plastic clear, and reseal it with a UV clear coat, all in shop at our Yorba Linda facility.
How we restore a hazy lens
Headlight lenses are polycarbonate with a thin factory UV coating on the surface. Sun and road exposure break that coating down, and the bare plastic underneath oxidizes into the familiar yellow haze. We mask the surrounding paint and trim, then wet sand the lens through progressively finer grits to physically remove the oxidized and failed coating. Once the surface is uniform we machine polish the plastic back to clarity and apply a fresh UV-resistant clear coat so the lens stays clear instead of clouding over again in a few weeks. Wiping a lens with a polish alone skips the sanding and the new coating, which is why that quick fix never lasts.

Why oxidized headlights matter on an RV
On a heavy motorhome or van you brake later and need more warning of what is ahead, so a dim, scattered beam is a real safety issue, not just an appearance complaint. Yellowed lenses can also draw attention at registration and inspection time. Because RV and van headlight assemblies are often large and expensive to replace outright, restoring the existing lens is usually the practical fix when the housing and reflector are still sound. If a lens is cracked or the reflector behind it has failed, restoration will not solve that, and we will tell you so during the inspection rather than polish a lens that needs replacing.

Lenses parked in full sun will haze sooner than ones kept covered or indoors. We do not make a guarantee, but the new UV coating is what makes the result durable.
Can you fix headlights that are cracked, not just foggy?+
No. Restoration removes oxidation and haze from the lens surface, but it cannot repair a cracked lens or a failed reflector behind it. If we find cracking or internal damage during the inspection, we will tell you that a replacement assembly is the right fix instead.
Do I need to leave the whole RV, or just have the lights done?+
Headlight restoration is done in our Yorba Linda shop, so the vehicle comes to us. It is often a same-day job on its own, and many owners pair it with a detail or other in-shop work to make one trip of it.
