Custom Bumpers and Racks in Chino

The short answer

OCRV Center designs, fabricates, and mounts custom bumpers, hitch carriers, and racks for RVs, trailers, and vans in our Yorba Linda shop, welded and tied into the frame so they carry real load. Most bumper and rack builds run from $350 to $9,000 depending on material and complexity.

Ballpark: $500 to $15,000+

A factory rear bumper is often hollow stamped steel that was never meant to carry a bike rack, a spare, or a cargo box. We build heavier replacements and carriers in steel or aluminum and tie them into the chassis so they hold weight instead of cracking the welds. All bumper and rack work is in-shop only at our Yorba Linda facility.

Bumpers and racks we build

Most rear-bumper failures we see start the same way, an owner bolts a swing-away bike rack or a hitch box onto a thin factory bumper, and road vibration eventually splits the welds or tears the mount loose. We replace the bumper with a properly gauged steel or aluminum unit and run the load back into the frame rails, not just the skin.

Front grille guards, brush bars, and light bars get the same treatment. We measure the actual vehicle, build the bracketry to clear sensors and tow points, and finish the metal so it survives Southern California sun and coastal salt air.

  • Heavy-gauge replacement rear bumpers in steel or aluminum
  • Swing-away spare tire and cargo carriers
  • Bike, kayak, and ladder racks tied into the frame
  • Receiver hitch and tongue-mounted cargo trays
  • Front grille guards, brush bars, and light-bar mounts
  • Roof rack and crossbar mounting for vans and Class C cabs

Engineered for the load it carries

A rack is only as strong as where it bolts. We design each mount around the weight it will actually hold, gusset the high-stress corners, and weld to the chassis or a frame extension rather than to sheet metal that will fatigue. A written estimate follows the design so you know the scope before we cut metal.

Once the steel is welded we grind the joints, prime, and topcoat or powder-prep the part so the bare metal does not become a rust line a year later. Aluminum builds get matched fasteners and isolation where they meet steel to keep the two metals from corroding against each other.

Finishing and corrosion protection

Every bumper and rack we build leaves the shop sealed against the elements, because a carrier that rusts at the welds is the next failure waiting to happen. We clean the metal, prime it, and apply a durable topcoat, and we can color-match a rear bumper to the coach so it reads factory rather than aftermarket.

  • Welds ground smooth before finishing
  • Primer and durable topcoat on all bare steel
  • Color-match available to blend with the coach
  • Stainless or coated hardware to resist road salt
  • Dissimilar-metal isolation on aluminum-to-steel joints
Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can you build a bumper strong enough to carry a bike rack and spare tire?+

Yes. We replace the thin factory bumper with a properly gauged steel or aluminum unit and tie the load into the frame, so a swing-away spare or a bike rack does not crack the welds the way it would on a stock bumper.

Will a custom rear bumper match the look of my coach?+

It can. We grind the welds smooth, prime and topcoat the metal, and can color-match a rear bumper to your coach so it reads factory rather than bolt-on aftermarket.

Do you fabricate racks for vans and fleet vehicles, not just motorhomes?+

Yes. We build and mount ladder racks, roof crossbars, cargo trays, and equipment carriers on conversion vans and commercial vehicles in our Yorba Linda shop.
