The Rivian R1S is the three row SUV on the same skateboard platform as the R1T, but the body is a different problem. It carries a large fixed glass roof, a tall greenhouse with D pillars and full quarter panels, a powered liftgate, and seating structure for seven. We repair the R1S body, glass, and structure while respecting its aluminum construction and floor mounted battery.

## What makes the R1S body different to repair

Unlike the open bed R1T, the R1S is a fully enclosed SUV, so its rear structure carries the load of the liftgate, the D pillars, the rear quarters, and the seating for the second and third rows. A rear or side impact on an R1S can distort the body opening enough that the liftgate stops sealing or the quarter glass binds, and those relationships have to be measured and brought back to factory, not eyeballed. The large fixed panoramic glass roof is a structural and weather sealing element as well, so when it or its surround is damaged we treat the bond and the opening with the same care as a windshield, not as trim.

As with every Rivian, the body is aluminum intensive and the battery sits in the floor as a structural member. A side hit that crushes a rocker or a B pillar loads the same region the pack mounts to, so we assess the structure and document it for the carrier before any straightening begins.

- Quarter panel, D pillar, and rear body opening repair
- Powered liftgate fit and seal restored after impact
- Large fixed glass roof bond and surround handled like structural glass
- Second and third row seating structure inspected after a rear hit
- Floor mounted battery region measured and documented before work

## Aluminum panels, glass, and refinish on the R1S

The R1S mixes aluminum body panels with composite fascias and cladding, and the tall greenhouse means a lot of glass and trim that has to come off and go back on cleanly. We separate bonded and riveted aluminum the factory way, replace what cannot be saved, and reset the glass and seals so wind noise and water intrusion do not show up two weeks later. Refinishing a large SUV body means controlling color and texture across long door and quarter panels, including Rivian's matte and metallic finishes, so the repaired side reads identical to the rest of the vehicle.

- Bonded and riveted aluminum separated and rejoined to factory method
- Glass, seals, and trim reset to prevent wind noise and water intrusion
- Color and texture matched refinish across long door and quarter panels
- Composite fascia and cladding prepped separately from metal
- Body gaps and closure operation verified after paint

## Frequently asked questions

### My R1S glass roof was damaged in a collision. Can you repair that?

Yes. The large fixed glass roof on the R1S is bonded into the body and acts as part of the structure and the weather seal, so we treat it like structural glass rather than trim. We address the opening, the bond, and the surrounding aluminum so the roof seats correctly and the cabin stays dry and quiet.

### After a rear impact, will the powered liftgate and third row still be safe and aligned?

That is exactly what we check. A rear hit on an R1S loads the liftgate opening, the D pillars, and the rear seating structure. We measure the body opening back to factory so the powered liftgate seals and cycles, and we inspect the structure behind the second and third rows before we sign off.

### Is the R1S harder to repair than a regular SUV?

It is different rather than simply harder. The aluminum intensive body, the structural floor mounted battery, and the large bonded glass roof all need methods a typical steel SUV does not, plus careful color matching on Rivian finishes. We work to those requirements and bill your insurance carrier direct.
