An armored van, whether a cash-in-transit truck or an up-armored Sprinter or Transit, is a standard van body wrapped around a ballistic package of steel or composite armor plate and laminated glass, riding on a chassis upgraded for the extra weight. That added mass and rigidity changes how the van crashes and how it is repaired. The outer skin still dents and scrapes, but the doors are heavy, the glass surrounds are reinforced, and the structure underneath is anything but a normal van. We repair the body and skin correctly around that armor. ## What an armored van actually needs The repairs we handle are on the vehicle side, not the protection rating. The outer body skin over the armor takes collision, dock, and curb damage and needs to be repaired and refinished without disturbing the ballistic package behind it. The heavy doors, built up with steel or composite plate, sag the hinges and knock out of alignment after a hit, so they bind, do not latch, or do not seal, and we reset the hinges and strikers for that weight. The reinforced glass surrounds and gun-port frames get bent in a collision and need to be brought back square so the laminated glass seats. The extra armor weight also rides on upgraded suspension and run-flat tires, and the body sits lower and reacts harder in a crash than a stock van, so the outer panels and mounts take more load. We repair the skin, the doors, the surrounds, and the body structure, and refinish to match, treating the armor as a sealed package we work around rather than into. ## Body work around the armor, in shop only All of this work happens in our shop. We do not do roadside, on-site, or mobile armored work, and we do not rate, certify, or alter the ballistic protection itself, that belongs with the armoring manufacturer. What we do is the collision and body repair on the vehicle that carries it.
